LISTENING SESSION: Starboy by The Weeknd & Daft Punk

The Weeknd had announced his new album Starboy which is set to release on November 25th.

This album is right on time with his "Fall shows every year like a birthday" mentality so it's definitely safe to be looking out for a tour starting quickly after the album drops!

 

Until November comes, Abel (in case you didn't know his real name) has left us with a new single featuring Daft Punk, the album serving as the protonym for the title Starboy

 

Starboy is a energetic pop song full of braggadocio from The Weeknd. Instead of the usual reflections on his past, The Weeknd focuses on the now, yours and his. Comparing cars, money, main chicks, and side chicks; Abel seeks to "put you in the worst mood" by letting you know this is not even a real competition for him.

 

If the rest of the album is carrying this same energy, you'll see the side of The Weeknd that he always wanted to be since before the Trilogy days. With notable lines like "Made your whole year in a week" and "Main bitch out of your league too, ah. Side bitch out of your league too, ah" modesty is definitely out of the window with this track, and I'm not really complaining about it.
